THE DME SOLUTION FOR TODAY’S FLIGHT DECKS
GDM 4500 DME is a modern digital radio, designed for installation in general aviation aircraft. It’s a remote-mount unit that follows the tuning of associated NAV radio(s).
MULTICHANNEL OPERATION
GDM 4500 can allow pilots to tune and track up to two separate DME frequencies. With an optional enablement and compatible avionics, the aircraft’s FMS1 can automatically scan and tune up to three additional DME frequencies.
DME HOLD CAPABILITY
For added navigation flexibility, the DME “hold” function lets you maintain your active DME distance indication when tuning the associated NAV radio to a different frequency. This function is particularly useful for instrument approaches where it becomes necessary to tune the localizer or other approach aid while needing to retain your NAV’s referenced DME information.
DME-DME AREA NAVIGATION (RNAV)
With a compatible flight deck or display, the GDM 4500 radio can use the distances from two or more DME ground stations to determine the aircraft’s position. This enables the DME to support RNAV routes, providing an alternative navigation option.
ROBUST INTERFACING WITH ARINC 429
GDM 4500 integrates directly with compatible Garmin displays — no interface adapter is required. Additionally, it supports ARINC 429, RS-232 and King Serial connections. ARINC 429 provides a digital interface for third-party navigation units and displays on the aircraft.
COMPLETING THE SYSTEM
In addition to compatible navigation equipment and flight displays in your aircraft, you’ll need an L-band DME antenna (sold separately) to complete your GDM 4500 system installation. See your Garmin dealer for recommended antenna options and mounting configurations.
1 Requires a compatible Garmin system; feature availability varies by display.
